Dolls of Hope

Our church publishes a worldwide, monthly publication that contains information on things going on all over the US and other countries involving our congregations. It's called "The Moravian". The most recent copy contained something near and dear to my heart - KNITTING!

As a church, we have a decent presence there and during visits with the local congregations the Director of Likewise/AIDS Ministries of the Board of World Mission, Kim Bartholomew, learned of a need to bring comfort to hurting children. The idea is to bring them comfort through dolls and other stuffed animals. They have started a Duduza Doll Ministry through the Board of World Mission.

"My heart both broke and rejoiced as I thought about the great possibilities for this ministry. It grieved me to be reminded that there are children without anything to hold as they live lives filled with trauma and pain. Yet, excitement bubbled up within as I searched for possible patterns and watched my first doll take shape,"
says article author Pastor Kelly Moore.

They have issued an invitation to be creative and create knitted, crocheted, or sewn dolls to share with these children a world away. If you are interested in more information please visit the Moravian Board of World Mission website. The site has links to online patterns.

If you are so inclined, start a ministry in your church or neighborhood. You needn't feel compelled to participate in ours, but participate somewhere!
